Finding the radial parallel temperature profile in a non-neutral plasma using equilibrium calculations on experimental data

چکیده
In 1992, Eggleston et al. ͓D. L. Eggleston et al., Phys. Fluids B 4, 3432 ͑1992͔͒ reported on a technique for measuring the radial temperature profile in a pure-electron plasma confined in a Malmberg-Penning trap by partially dumping the plasma onto a charge collector at the end of the trap. For short plasmas and short confining rings, the assumptions in their paper are violated and a more general calculation is needed. This paper presents a variation of the standard equilibrium calculation to find the temperature profile of a pure-electron plasma. Eggleston's shortcut " evaporation " temperature method is found to require a correction factor that can be calculated using methods described in this paper. For typical conditions, the evaporation method overstates the actual temperature by a factor ranging from 1.1 to 1.5 or more, depending on the plasma's total charge and temperature and the geometry of the trap.

Numerical calculation of axisymmetric nonneutral plasma equilibria
Efficient techniques for computing axisymmetric non-neutral plasma equilibria are described. These equilibria may be obtained either by requiring global thermal equilibrium, by specifying the midplane radial density profile, or by specifying the radial profile of sn dz. Both splines and finite-differences are used, and the accuracy of the two is compared by using a new characterization of the t...
متن کاملشرایط گذار به اشتعال غیرتعادلی در افروزش حجمی هدفهای کروی ساده
In this Research, the transition from equilibrium ignition to non-equilibrium burn was studied by DEIRA4 code for simple spherical targets with the dimensions of several mm. It consisted of inner DT fuel and outer Au layers driven by the 209Bi heavy ions beam. Because of their higher plasma opacity, it was expected that they could trap much of the produced charged particles, radiation or even f...
متن کاملThe dependence of the magnetic field strength of a sunspot umbra on its intensity and brightness temperature
A partial decrease of the convective energy by the magnetic field of a sunspot causes the temperature of the magnetized plasma to decrease and this leads to a magneto-hydrostatic equilibrium. Thus, we expect a strong relation between magnetic field strength of a sunspot and its temperature/brightness. Here, we investigate this relation in the umbra of the large sunspot in NOAA10930 using spectr...

This paper reports on the progress for the first development of rocket probe for in-situ measurement of ionospheric plasma parameters in Iran. The designed probe known as Plasma Impedance Probe (PIP) will be used to measure the electron density, electron-neutral collision frequency, background magnetic field, and temperature in the mesospheric and in the altitude range of 70 km to 150 km. This ...

In this work, we model a radiofrequency discharge of hydrogenated silicon nitride in a capacitive coupled plasma reactor using Maxwellian and non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution function. The purpose is to investigate whether there is a real advantage and a significant contribution using non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution function rather than Maxwellian one for determining the ...
